The 1999 Pretended Referendum
“Do you agree to altering the Constitution to establish the Commonwealth of Australia
as a republic with the Queen and Governor-General being replacedby a President
appointed by a two-thirds majority of the members of the Commonwealth Parliament”?
45% voted yes, 54% not suprisingly voted No
It was the referendum the people wanted and the Politicians had to have
knowing the predicted result would quash dreams of a Rebulic
for at least generation.
Had the question been
“Do you agree to altering the Constitution to establish as a parliamentary Republic
with the Queen/King and Governor-General being replaced by a President elected by the people”?
Australia would have been an independent republic for the last 25 years.
Since the 1999 result our leaders and or our potential leaders meekly chose
to snooze until the Queen dies before re tackling the Republic cause;
to cowardly eat dominion pie until the cook croaks.
Queen Elizabeth died in September 22/2000 and yet there is still no movement at the station.
Election fear overcomes principles.
There have been some worthy attempts to establish a Republic,
The previous Australia Republic Party has been registered
and deregistered about three times over the last two decades.
Because of lackluster support
the movement has not been able
to stir the complacent noodle’s soup.
Until Now
Our flag ,masthead and bumper sticker has the internationally recognized
and admired symbol of boomerangs.
Out of all the tribes that threw sticks at food, one tribe of hunters recognized
that some sticks flew better than others and began modifying them.
Just as surfers sculpt surfboards from foam to ride the waves,
the Aborigines sculpted boomerangs from hardwood to ride the wind.
They pioneered aerodynamic lift 5000 years before the Wright brothers.
We hope to see stickers on 1 in every ten cars in the canberra goverment carpark
by 2028
The more cars with stickers
The more power to a Republic
Peanuts for Jam
Australia is one of the best low-risk countries to invest in,
securing 11th place in a global ranking of investment safety.
“The country's political stability score of 0.92 reflects its mature democratic system
and reliable governance structures,
while its investment attractiveness rating of 81.9 highlights its appeal to global capital.
It is in the top three for mineral resource investment.
The others are Canada and the United States.
Despite all these credentials our government’s continue to beg for foreign investors,
giving them privilege upon privilege
Australia rates on top of the world’s ‘money for jam’ list.
US, Australia and Qatar are the world’s major LNG gas exporters.
For the same annual volume Qatar is forecasting 2 6.6 billion in compensation ;
while Australia is forecasting 800 million.
A significant portion of exported gas (56%) is not subject to royalties,
meaning gas companies pay nothing for the right to extract and sell this gas.
This "gas giveaway" has resulted in billions of dollars in potential revenue
forgone by the Australian government.
That is $13 billion annually.
We have given so much away so cheaply that we don't have enough for ourselves,
Ignominiously we have to buy back (even beg back)
some of what we've exported at retail value.
Both Liberal and Labour parties are complicit in this debacle.
Only as a republic will Australia have the mettle to plug our big sinks.
We never forget that a Billion dollars builds
300 Houses
8 Suburban or 4 City highrise High Schools
A 300 Bed Hospital
Gobal Warming
In 2015 the Capitalist establishment pointed the economy gun
at our leader’s heads,
and came away with the Paris Agreement
"to limit the global temperature increase
in this century to well below 2 degrees Celsius."
90% Of this is absorbed by the world's oceans.
Raising the ocean temperature by about 0.1 degrees per decade.
triggers a short term rise of 9 to 16cm (as it has)
and a long term / century rise due to decades of melt
by a terrifying 20 to 30 cm
We should never have compromised from net-zero emissions!!!
